Atlanta Running – Spring has Sprung!

by Chad on March 29, 2010

Get ready to break out the pastels, poplin and seersucker

I am no meteorologist and I almost flunked geology (pretty funny story about me sleeping through the final back in the the good old days in Athens – why did I even take that course?), but I am going on the record and claiming that Spring is officially here.  Sure, we will have that random freeze/freakish spring blizzard most likely, but for the most part, Atlanta is getting into full bloom.  You probably are too busy to notice, so I feel compelled to remind you that Atlanta is a beautiful place.  I do a good bit of traveling and I am always amazed when I fly back home and see all of the  trees and green space around our city.  Please take notice over the next two weeks that Augusta National is not the only place that has azaleas — I promise.

With the arrival of Spring (and the passing of the ING Georgia Marathon), Dave and I are very excited to let you in on a little known fact — while we are big talkers, we also do our fair share of listening.  Over the past couple of months, Chad and Dave’s Track Club members have been asking for shorter group runs, runs that are later than 7:00 am, help training for their first ever (or first one in a long time) 5k or 10k.  It’s been very cool to hear from folks that just want to get back in shape and get outside more.  That’s what this Track Club is all about, so in order to make everyone happy, we are going to be focused on the following three initiatives over the coming months:

5k Training Program – Starting next week, we are going to focus on offering a 8-week 5k training program.  The focus event for the 5k program will be the Virginia Highland Summerfest 5k on June 5.  If you would like to make this a personal goal, you need to register early because they max out at the first 1,000 runners.  This is not a “Couch to 5k” program because we think that is a bunch of horse crap.  Seriously, does anyone really have time to sit around on the couch?  I don’t even know where my couch is, but I bet if I moved enough toys and cleared out some laundry waiting to be folded, I could find it.  Let’s face it, we are all too busy trying to run our lives, much less run a 5k, but if you have 2 hours a week, we can get you across that finish line without wanting to barf.

Buckhead Lunch Run is Back – Starting tomorrow and hopefully continuing every Tuesday at noon, we are going to bring back the ever popular Buckhead Lunch Run.  The run will be 3-4 miles starting at noon sharp.  We meet at the LA Fitness, near the intersection of Piedmont/Peachtree, in the parking lot (upper deck by Marshalls).  If you are an LA Fitness member, you can meet, get a run in and shower within the lunch hour.  Check the Meetup.com site for more details and to RSVP.

Weekly After Work Run – More details to come on this one, but our fearless co-leader, Dave, has some really cool news to share.  He is in the process of ironing out a few more details, but we will be starting a post work run once a week in the Buckhead area.  Check out the site and Meetup.com for soon to come info on this.

Look forward to seeing you for a run soon.  Please, keep the questions and suggestions coming.  We love hearing from you.

Thanks for the Masters clip. Who needs running? I now feel like laying on the sofa, watching about three shots on the TV and then falling asleep for the balance of the afternoon. That’s a really relaxing tune. Sounds like Dave and Chad have a lot of good stuff in store for the track club. Plus after running in all this pollen, it’s gonna seem really easy to breathe after this stuff’s gone…at least until smog season gets here.
